How much does a bankruptcy cost?

The attorneys fees charged in a bankruptcy fluctuate depending on the complexity of the particular case. For instance, if you own real estate or have garnishments, the costs may be higher. Each situation is different. Sometimes discounts are applied for persons on fixed incomes or have other extenuating circumstances. The best thing to do is to merely schedule a free consultation to discuss specifics.

The court imposes a standard fee for filing a bankruptcy. Court costs are $299 fee for a Chapter 7 and $274 for a Chapter 13.

In addition to attorneys fees and court costs, you may incur costs for a credit report, a request to the IRS for transcripts of the last filed tax return (if you don't have copies) and paying for the congressionally mandated credit briefing session and debtor financial education course.
